It’s almost impossible to walk down the Oak-lined streets of Ocean Springs without seeing local artwork. The heart of Ocean Springs’ art culture began with the Anderson family. Walter and Peter Anderson were brothers that both were gifted with artistic talents. Walter painted organic designs and Peter created beautifully shaped pottery pieces. Shearwater Pottery was founded in 1928 by Peter and continues to produce pottery, utilitarian ware, figurines, decorative tiles and other pieces unique in nature today. The Walter Anderson Museum of Art honors Walter and his artwork along with the famous Little Room where he frequented his time to bring life to every inch of the walls, floor and ceiling. Throughout the years, art has popped up everywhere including on sides of buildings and in parks. Thanks to the efforts of the Public Art Project (PAPOS), those pieces are documented. From public art installations to galleries large and small, art is everywhere you look.
