(Ocean Springs, MS) – Ocean Springs Main Street joined the Mississippi Main Street Association (MMSA) at their annual state-wide awards event on Thursday, June 15 in Jackson. The annual awards luncheon honors Main Street directors, board members and volunteers and recognizes the most outstanding downtown revitalization projects and events from Main Street communities throughout Mississippi.
“Each year, the Annual Awards Luncheon highlights the people, projects, and initiatives that drive economic development in Mississippi’s Main Street communities,” said Thomas Gregory, MMSA Executive Director. “Our local Main Street programs are strategic in their downtown revitalization work, and we are proud to recognize their accomplishments over the past year.”
As part of the event, the organization awarded The Beatnik of Ocean Springs with the Outstanding New Development Project for the state of Mississippi. Inspired by both the Beatnik culture and adventure seekers of the 1950s & 60s, this boutique hotel offers a unique experience for all. Each cabin features sleek and low-slung furniture, minimalistic and neutral décor, and raw elements that bring a sense of relaxation. The theme of senses is captured in the textures and visual impacts of materials used in each cabin and across the design of the landscape. The owners, Roxy and Ted Condrey along with Mike Davis, director of sales marketing accepted the award. The Beatnik was nominated by Ocean Springs Main Street.
In 2022, every dollar invested in MMSA resulted in $189 of private investment in Mississippi’s Main Street communities, the highest return on investment of any economic activity in the state.
Since 1993, MMSA has generated more than $6 billion in private and public investment (including more than $1.8 billion in public investment).
The Ocean Springs Main Street program is one of the 48 Designated Main Street programs and is part of the Ocean Springs Chamber of Commerce-Main Street-Tourism Bureau organization. Ocean Springs Chamber has been operating since 1947 and as a Main Street organization since 1988.
